I will be hitting the road at the end of July for a 2-3 month trip around the USA. My goal is to meet activists, visit protest hot spots, and report as I go, with the written word and photography. I would especially like to focus on amplifying the voices of women, as patriarchy remains a fundamentally dominating force in our society.
One place I hope to publish is Counterpunch, where my work has appeared on a semi-regular appearance the last three years. [ See full list here ]
Dr. Martin Luther King spoke of three evils besetting this nation: racism, materialism and militarism. All three persist in our day and age, and have worsened in so many ways. To these afflictions, we must now add the many environmental issues that have metastasized in the fifty years since King’s assassination, which include atmospheric pollution, ocean acidification, wildlife extinction, top soil destruction and global climate change. Human actions are threatening to make the planet unliveable for much life, including our own.
So what are people doing about these issues? Are things getting better or worse? How can others help? This is what I would like to explore.
I’ll be traveling in the Toyota pick-up truck that I’ve spent much of my time living out of the last couple years, camping along the way. In cities, I will want to stay with friends, both old and newly met, so if you would like to host me for a night or three, let me know!
If you have recommendations about people you think I should meet or campaigns I should cover, please contact me.
I won’t be limiting my time to activists only. I would like to meet all kinds of people regardless of their level of political engagement. So if you’d just like to hang out off-the-record, that’s also great.
